Nazareth Village
The Nazareth Village is an authentic recreation of a working first-century village and farm. A collective effort of archaeologists, Biblical scholars, and committed volunteers, the village is constructed where an original first-century wine press was discovered in the 1990's, on a plot of land owned by Nazareth Hospital.
The village is located on hospital property, at the base of the hill where Nazareth Hospital is situated. Former hospital volunteers, Mike and Virginia Hostetler, USA, were instrumental in the development and opening of the Nazareth Village. Its current director, Shirley Roth, is from Kansas. Contributing to the authenticity and sustainability of the village, the majority of its staff are local to Nazareth. Children on school field trips, local groups, and international travelers visit Nazareth Village and learn the life and parables of Jesus of Nazareth. Built on the site of an original first-century wine press, Nazareth Village lies directly at the foot of Nazareth Hospital. Nazareth Village gives visitors a taste of living history and represents the collective efforts of archaeologists, antiquities scholars, Bible scholars, historians, and story-tellers, all working to re-create Nazareth as it would have been 2,000 years ago. To learn more about how the village began, and what is happening there today, see the Nazareth Village website.
