Summer 2003 Volume 13 Issue 2
Inside Nazareth Hospital
The work at Nazareth Hospital continues, with 10,000 inpatients and 20,000 emergency room visits occurring in the first five months of 2003. Accommodations improve in a continuing fashion as well, with the completion of the new psychiatry unit, the only one in Arab Israel, and the beginning of construction of a waiting area for the X-Ray department. Project by project, the hospital improves its service, upgrades its staff education, and strengthens its Christian witness.
A donation of $120,000. has made it possible for the installation of air conditioning units in the patient rooms, a major triumph in a hot, hot climate. This welcome improvement is possible thanks to a bequest from the estate of Dr. Arnold Walker, in honor of his daughter, Eleanor. From Edinburgh, Scotland, Dr. Eleanor Walker was a long time anesthesiologist at the hospital. She served on the governing body for the hospital and was known for her practical wisdom and insights. A devout follower of Jesus, she had many fries among the Jewish and Arab communities.
